View Slideshow

Staged in the middle of the Writers Guild strike, this became the only major televised awards ceremony of the season to proceed as normal. The WGA granted the SAG Awards a waiver in recognition of the guilds' solidarity, and the show went ahead with a full red carpet. No Country for Old Men won the film cast award. Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) and Julie Christie (Away from Her) took lead honors; Javier Bardem and Ruby Dee won supporting. The Sopranos and The Office won the TV ensembles. Charles Durning received the Life Achievement Award.

HISTORICAL NOTES

  • The only major televised awards show to run in full during the 2007–08 WGA strike, a moment that permanently strengthened the ceremony's standing in the industry.

  • Debut of the two stunt ensemble categories, for film and television. The first awards of their kind from any major body.
