Birdman won the film cast award for a film about stage actors, built on long unbroken takes that demanded exactly the kind of company timing the category exists to reward. Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and Julianne Moore (Still Alice) took lead honors, with J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) and Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) in supporting. Downton Abbey and Orange Is the New Black won the TV ensembles. Debbie Reynolds received the Life Achievement Award.

HISTORICAL NOTES

• Orange Is the New Black began a three-year comedy ensemble streak, the first for a streaming series.
